As much as I wish summer was over, we still have a whole month under summer is officially over which means, we curly-haired people still have to battle frizziness. Don’t fret though, frizz in curls are completely normal, and pretty much every naturally curly-hair individual has some frizz. It adds volume! So don’t worry too much. However, if your frizzy curls are overflowing and need to be tamed I listed some tips on how you can fight the summer humidity and keep frizziness away.

Water
Don’t keep your curls thirsty, give them some water! The reason your hair is frizz is that it’s dry and when curls are dry they freak the frizz out! Quench your curls thirst by spritzing some water to hydrate those dry frizzy locks, scrunch the water into your curls for better absorption. Also, make sure to seal with a styling product afterward.
Tip: Keep a mini spray bottle with water and a tiny bit of leave-in-conditioner in your bag and when you see frizz appear, spray some water to calm your frizzy locks.
Add More Styling Product
First off, if you are not using a lot of styling products in your curls and complaining about frizz, well, that’s your problem! I used to never use more than one styling product because I always thought the less product the healthier your hair would be, not with curly hair! Curly hair loves moisture and hydration so let your curls absorb in all that moisture from styling products by adding an extra glob of product in the summer to combat frizz. Most curly hair styling products help seal in moisture, prevent damage, and reduce frizz. Check out what products I’m currently using here.
Tip: Mix water and aloe to soothe your curly hair locks from the heat.
Use Oil
I recommend using castor oil, sweet almond oil, and jojoba oil. Apply a little bit of oil to your palms and scrunch into your curls to lock in moisture and nourish damaged hair. You can also sleep with some oil in your hair and wash it off the next morning to add more shine and moisture.
Try A Different Application
When I was first starting my Curl Girl journey I was using a completely different product application than what I’m using now. If you’re not satisfied with how your curls are forming and seeing an influx in frizz, try a different technique. Play around with different application techniques until you are in love with how your curls dry naturally.
Use A Deep Conditioner
If you’re a curly-haired gal and not using a treatment like a deep conditioner or mask, you are doing it wrong! I swear, once I started using intense moisturizing masks regularly I noticed my hair was less frizzy, shiny, and my curl definition was amazing! Make sure to use both a protein-based and deep moisture mask at least twice a month to keep your levels balanced.
Use Satin Silk Pillowcase
I sleep on a satin silk pillowcase because I toss and turn a lot in my sleep and that can create extra unwanted frizz. So invest in a silky pillowcase to prevent waking up like a Trollz doll.
Keep Your Hair Up
Another reason why you may be getting an excuse amount of frizz during the Summer is because of all your sweat! Most of us sweat during the summer and when our curls are down they are exposed to that sweaty messy and that creates frizz. To fix this, simply tie your hair up with satin silk scrunchies in a pineapple or loose bun to keep your curls frizz-free.
