It’s time for my updated curly hair check-in! Go check out my first curly check-in and my second check-in if you haven’t. This is a seasonal curly hair series where I share what I’ve been doing to my curly hair within 3 months. I was meant to post this back in September but I was traveling that month so all my posts got pushed back a few weeks including this one. Let’s go back to the late summer and early autumn months, as I share what worked and what didn’t work for me in terms of my curls.
By the way, if you read my last blog post then you may be aware that I recently tried a new hair styling routine. However, because I started using that routine in October I’m saving that for my next curly hair update. I thought I would address that because I just mentioned it.

My HAIR TYPE
I have curly/wavy hair, I’m a type 2B-2C. I have thin, medium porosity hair, and my hair frizzes easily. I’ve been on my natural curly hair journey since late 2020. I wear my hair naturally curly 99% of the time, the only heat-styling tool I use is a diffuser. I no longer follow the Curly Girl Method rules but I am mindful of what ingredients are in the hair products. I use this website to help me identify the ingredients.
CURRENT WASHING ROUTINE
Down below are all the products I’m currently using in my hair cleansing routine. I do a bond treatment once a month and then alternate between using a deep moisturizing or protein mask. However, I do sometimes skip a week and not use any treatments at all if I think my hair doesn’t need it. I also dry brush tangle with an oil so that I do not damage my strands.
Oil: Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Light Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil
Bond Treatment: Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve (only use once a month)
Hair Growth Shampoo: VEGAMOUR GRO Revitalizing Shampoo
Hair Growth Conditioner: VEGAMOUR GRO Revitalizing Conditioner
Hair Scalp: VEGAMOUR GRO Scalp Detoxifying Serum
Deep conditioner: HASK ARGAN OIL Repairing Deep Conditioner Treatment (once every 2 weeks)
Protein Hair Mask: Palmer’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack (once every 2 weeks)
HAIR STYLING ROUTINE
I’ve switched up my styling routine which I’ll discuss more in down below. As for the products, I’ve been trying to use up most of my old leave-in conditioners. I always use one leave-in and one styling product (gel or mousse) for hold. I also use a texturized spray at the end of my routine, before I diffuse my hair to properly ‘set’ all the products in my hair and this also helps my curls dry faster.
current styling routine (after showering)
brush with a leave-in or curl cream → part hair → quickly brush hair (using ribbon technique) → gel or mousse → texturizing spray → air-dry to 80% dry → diffuse the rest →scrunch out the crunchy parts with an oil
Brush: Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangling Brush & Tangle Teezer Detangling Mini Hairbrush
Leave-In Conditioner: Lottabody Love Me 5-in-1 Miracle Creme OR L’Oreal Paris Elvive Hyaluron + Plump Replumpng Serum Leave-In OR L’Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths Curls Non-Stop Dreamy Curls Leave-in Cream OR Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Lotion
Mousse: Lottabody Coconut & Shea Oils Wrap Me Foaming Mousse
Texturizing Spray: Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray
Diffuser: Conair Hair Dryer (with diffuser attachment)
Oil: VEGAMOUR HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil
how i sleep with curly hair
I flip my hair over and try to make a loose bun (aka a pineapple) on the top of my head and secure it with a satin scrunchie (sometimes two!). I also sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent frizz.
how i refresh my curls
The following morning, I take out my ‘pineapple’ and let gravity decide whether or not I need to refresh my curls. I’m a pretty reckless sleeper so I toss and turn a lot. Sometimes I need a major refreshing due to my hair looking too fluffy and wonky but sometimes I can get away without doing anything, it varies.
When I refresh, I will spray a bit of water in a water bottle throughout my locks and apply a bit of whatever styling product I used the day before.
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
Vegamour GRO Collection
If you’ve been actively following my blog then you may have seen my review on the Vegamour GRO. Vegamour reached out to me and asked me if I would be willing to review their GRO collection in exchange for a review. This was a huge deal for me! Even though I’ve been blogging for over 10+ years I rarely get sent stuff, especially things that I’m interested in! This year has been such an abundant year for my blog and we’ve been generously gifted so many amazing opportunities this year Vegamour is one of my top 3 because I wasn’t expecting their products to improve my hair as much as it has. Not only did I get the opportunity to try out this brand but I also discovered some new products that I love and have improved my hair! Even though I was gifted these products all thoughts are of my own.
Travel-friendly Tangle Teezer Hairbrush
I bought the Tangle Teezer Detangling Mini Hairbrush to use when I travel. Last year, when I was traveling I took my regular Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangling Brush but a few of the bottom bristles bent due to the movement of traveling which sucked so I took a mental note to purchase the miniature size the next time I traveled. The mini Tangled Teezer is definitely a lot smaller than thought it would be but it fits in my beauty bag perfectly and it works perfectly on my thin curly hair. I feel like if you had thicker hair or a lot of hair this brush would probably be more difficult to use on your hair so keep that in mind. Since returning from my trip I haven’t used this brush as much but I do use it to fix certain wonky or frizzy sections and it’s great at organizing the face framing parts.
GRO Hair Serum
This goes along with the first part. I was kindly gifted a 90-day supply of the VEGAMOUR GRO Hair Serum and have been using it religiously since receiving it. I’m planning on making a post on this product and sharing my experience once I’ve finished the entire supply. I just started using my last bottle a week ago so do expect that post to go live before the end of the year.

I love that you are documenting your journey, its so interesting to read about 😁 I tried a mini size tangle teaser once and it wouldn’t go through my hair haha! I love their full sized ones, such a shame about the bottom bristles bending in.

I’m glad you find my curly hair journey fascinating. My curls have come a long way! I mainly do this so that I remember what hair routines and products I enjoy as sometimes I can forget because use a lot of different hair products. I used to have wavy hair, but since my curly hair journey, more curls have formed! It’s incredible!
I also prefer the full-size Tangle Teezer over the small one but it’s convenient when traveling! haha ♥
