A few weeks ago, me and my family (me, my two sisters, mom, dad, and nephew) took a weeklong trip to Italy. This was our first time in Italy and it was such a beautiful experience. Italy gave off such a warm and welcoming vibe and its architecture around the city is truly breathtaking. We stayed in Rome for 3 days and then took a bullet train to Venice for a day and a half. The trip went by so fast that we didn’t have enough time to visit every place that we wanted to but that just means I have to visit Italy again! haha
I split my days in Rome and Venice into two separate blog posts so that I don’t bombard you all with too many pictures because I collected a lot of footage and will give each picture time to shine over on my Instagram by the time this post is live so make sure to head over to my Instagram for more Italian content.
We arrived at our Airbnb at around 4-5 pm but we were all knackered from traveling that we all had to nap and didn’t wake up until around 8 pm! In the evening, we explored the neighborhood around our Airbnb to get some for and necessities at a corner store. We saw these amazingly looking pizza slices (mine was the pesto and mozzarella with cherry tomatoes!) and potato croquettes. Both were delicious but the pizza crust was a bit hard but the flavor and toppings outweighed the thick crust.
Because we woke up late and it started to rain we didn’t do much the rest of the day and went back to our Airbnb and prepared for the next day. It was supposed to rain almost every day that we were in Italy but we were lucky because it didn’t rain too much during our stay.
On our first full day, we woke up early to head to the Colosseum. We took a self-guided tour around the Colosseum and explored on our own. I was in awe of how big these ruins were. I mean look at how they photograph! After spending a few hours at the Colosseum we got hungry and had lunch.
I didn’t take many pictures of the food I ate in Italy because the food didn’t look impressive but the taste was OMG! What I learned about Italian food is that it may not look like much on the outside but the taste and what’s inside is so fresh and flavorful. The food is out of this world! I consumed so much pizza, tiramisu, and gelato! Not enough pasta though. haha
As we were wining and dining, it started to pour raind! We were stranded inside the restaurant and just waited for the rain to calm down. Our Airbnb is located close to the Colosseum so we went back to our Airbnb to rest up a little and freshen up.
Later on that same day, we went to the Roman Forum because It’s right across the Colosseum. My mom got us passes to visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum but we could only use them on the same day. Thankfully, after the rain stopped it stopped for good and we were able to explore the Roman Forum without using umbrellas. There were so many gorgeous structures around the Forum, it was a lovely sight to the eyes. The craftsmanship on certain structures was just incredible! Italian architecture is on a whole other level!
We explored around the Roman Forum for hours, it’s so huge! Afterward, we went shopping for some souvenirs at some of the shops nearby. Go check out my Italy haul if you haven’t! I don’t remember what we did the rest of the day but I guarantee you that it involved some pistachio gelato! haha
On our last day, we visited the Trevi Fountain! You know how sometimes some places look large in pictures but in person they look smaller? Well, not the Trevi Fountain! It’s huge and stunning! The fountain is in an area that’s surrounded by a bunch of shops and places that serve gelato, the area itself is pretty cramped especially when it’s packed with tourists all wanting to take photos of the fountain. I finally had my Lizzie Maguire moment. haha
The rest of the day, we shopped and dined around the area where the Trevi Fountain. I was surprised to see that they had a LUSH pretty close by. I was pleasantly surprised to see that LUSH had a Hispanic Heritage collection! They also had their Halloween collection out which was cute. If I had a bathtub, I would’ve bought some cute bath bombs but sadly I don’t and the soaps at LUSH dry me out so I didn’t buy anything.
And that’s all we did in Rome! Time flew by! We didn’t get a chance to do all the things we wanted to like visit the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon which were both on my list of places to go but there is always next time.
Rome was such a gorgeous city! Looking back at all these photos and trying to reminisce about what we did each day was such a delightful experience. We didn’t get to do everything that we wanted because we had a 4-year-old with us who got irritable when pushed to his limits. I probably should’ve adventured out on my own because some of my best highlights from this trip were when I broke off from my family and just wandered around for a bit. When you travel with a group of people you realize that you all have styles of traveling. I definitely need to go back to Italy one day to see all the places I didn’t get to visit on this trip but overall I’m glad that I got to spend time with my family exploring this gorgeous city and I can’t wait to come back!
Have you visited Rome before?

Glad you had a lovely break with your family in Italy! Rome is one of my favourite European cities – the history, architecture, food and people are just magical. Now I need to dig out our photobook for a little reminisce.
