It’s been a minute since I shared an empties post. It’s not that I haven’t used up any beauty products, it’s just that I haven’t saved them for the sake of a blog post. I love seeing what hair and skincare products people are using and their thoughts on said products. In this post, I’m sharing a few hair styling products from a drugstore that I recently finished.
I have curly/wavy hair, I’m a type 2B-2C. I have thin medium porosity hair, my hair frizzes easily and I have a bit of color on the ends of my hair. I’ve been on my natural curly hair journey since late 2020. I wear my hair naturally curly 99.9% of the time, the only heat-styling tool I use is a diffuser. I no longer follow the Curly Girl Method rules but I am mindful of what ingredients are in certain hair products, I use this website.

Aussie Miracle Curls Curl-Defining Oil
I finished this hair oil back when I was in California. After styling my curls, I used this gel as scrunching oil to break my gel cast. I was not too fond of this oil because the consistency felt heavy on my thin hair. It did smell good but I will not be repurchasing this oil.
Cantu Thermal Shield Heat Protectant
I’ve been using this heat protectant for over a year. I love Cantu products because they contain protein and my hair thrives on protein. I spritz a few sprays of this product then brush it into my hair and follow up with the rest of my styling routine. While I did enjoy this heat protectant I want to try out a similar product from a different brand next.
Garnier Fructis Curl Scrunch Controlling Gel
This was a surprising item that I enjoyed using. Even though I love using drugstore products I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to older brands like Garnier Fructis. With that said, I loved this gel! It’s lightweight but provides a nice hold and doesn’t leave a gross sticky residue which I thought it would! It was also a great gel to use on refresh days. It’s also super affordable!
Hairitage Ahead of the Curl! Curl Creme
This was my first hair product from Hairitage and I loved it! This became one of my favorite curl cremes that I used last year because it’s light, contains protein, makes my hair feel soft, has a nice slip, and smells good. I can see myself buying this again and more products from Hairitage in the future.
Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner
I have repurchased this leave-in conditioner multiple times. It’s lightweight and has a bit of a slip which makes brushing through my hair easy. This year, I stopped using both a leave-in and a curl cream in my styling routine and now only use one. When I feel my hair needs more moisture in my hair I use a leave-in conditioner but when I don’t think I need more hydration (like after I’ve used a hair mask) I will use a curl cream. I’ll explain more about this in my 3-year curl journey update post that I’ll be posting next month.
