Curly Hair Styling Haul ♥ Reviews & First Impressions

November 30, 2022

For the past few months, I’ve been collecting and testing out a few new curl hair-styling products to help enhance my curls. This was originally going to be a styling product and tools haul but I decided to include reviews on these products which made this post longer than I would’ve liked. So, I’ll make a separate post that will focus on curling styling tools in the future. In this post, I will be sharing some of the latest curly hair styling products, some that I’ve tried and tested and some that I haven’t, I’ll also be reviewing the ones that I have tried and sharing my first impressions on the products that I haven’t tested. I want to note that I did purchase some of these products as early as September and as late as just this weekend which is why I’m not reviewing all products.

I’m also trying something new and marking the curly hair products that are curly-girl method approved and noting when there are certain non-improved CGM ingredients like sulfates, silicon, proteins, etc. If you would like to see a post where I explain which curly hair ingredients let me know.

*L’OREAL Elvive Non-Stop Dreamy Curls Dream Lengths Curls Leave-in Conditioner
Elvive Dream Lengths Curls paraben-free nourishing formulas help you achieve dreamy hydrated, defined, bouncy, soft curly hair without weigh down. Formulated with a cocktail of hyaluronic acid and fine castor oil, Elvive Dream Lengths Curls curly hair regimen helps locks in long-lasting moisture for deeply hydrated curly hair from scalp to tip and defines curly hair by sculpting and retaining shape. Plus, it helps fight humidity!

Moisture Push Shampoo cleanses without stripping hair of moisture, while Moisture Seal Conditioner works in perfect synergy to help seamlessly detangle without breaking the definition of curly hair. No-Build Up Micellar Shampoo water-to-airy foam acts like a magnet to gently remove the most stubborn build-up. Non-Stop Dreamy Curls leave-in conditioner moisturizes and defines curly hair by day with a silk pillowcase effect by night. Refresh & Reshape leave-in spray instantly brings curly hair back.

Review: My curls feel soft and hydrated without feeling weighed down. I like that the product is both affordable, available at most drugstores, and contains a lot of product. It’s not my favorite leave-in conditioner but it’s a good product and would like to try the rest of the Dream Lengths Curls collection. This product does contain silicones so if that’s not your cup of tea then avoid this product.

HASK Curl Care Curl Defining Cream
This lightweight, humidity-proof formula works to enhance your natural curl pattern, leaving curls touchably-soft and defined. Enriched with a miracle blend of coconut oil, argan oil & vitamin E to seal-in moisture and shine for a frizz-free finish.

This product is vegan, cruelty-free, and free of silicones, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, drying alcohol, and artificial colors.

Review: This is a lightweight defining cream that helps control frizz & hydrates curls. The scent is kind of overwhelming at first but once applied you don’t notice it, at least I didn’t. I really love this styling product and have had a lot of my best curly hair days because of this product so I highly recommend it!

HAIRITAGE Ahead of the Curl! Curl Creme
Stay ahead of the curve and Ahead Of The Curl! This curl crème provides unmatched definition and control, while maintaining movement, touchability, and bounce. When you’re looking for resilient, long-lasting healthy curls, this is your go-to curl cream! Made specially for hair types 3A-4C.

This product is vegan, cruelty-free, color-safe, and free of silicones, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and mineral oil.

Review: This is my first time testing out products from Hairitage! The first time I used this creme I made the mistake of applying too much product, a little goes a long way with this product so be wary. But when I used it properly, I got some amazing results! My curls look moisturized and defined, I love this product! However, it contains protein so I don’t use it on every wash day because when I used this on multiple wash days I could tell my wavy/curls didn’t look as good so now I use it every other week.

TWIST Hype It Up Weightless Refreshing Spray
When curls begin to droop on day-two or three (or four, or five…no judgement) this supercharged refreshing spray perks them right up. Chock full of botanicals and good-for-your-curls ingredients, the no-residue formula restores moisture, definition and uniformity.

This product is safe for color and chemically treated hair, and free of silicones, harsh sulfates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, and mineral oil.

Review: TWIST is an affordable drugstore hair range created by Ouidad. Their products are categorized into three groups, Essential Moisture, Extra Moisture, and Ultimate Moisture. The TWIST website offers a hair quiz to see what products would be best suited for your curl type and hair issues.

This refreshing spray claims to hydrate, revive, and define curls. I’ve used this on both dry and damp/wet curls, I prefer using it on damp hair. I love this product! It’s a water-based spray with just a bit of conditioner/cream product. My hair just drinks up products like this! This has been my go-to refresh styling product for the past month. The only problem is the mist pump that comes with this product. It broke after two uses! I had to transfer the product to a travel-size bottle just so that I could use this. This product contains proteins.

TWIST Hit Reset Light Clarifying Shampoo
When your curls get weighed down by product build-up, grime, and excess oils, it’s time for a reset. This gentle clarifying shampoo is all about balance. Eliminate build-up without stripping curls of the natural oils they need to form and stay strong. In just one wash, it will help reboot the curl pattern for a fresh start.

This product is safe for color and chemically treated hair, and free of silicones, harsh sulfates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, and mineral oil.

The shampoo contains aloe vera to hydrate and soothe the scalp and promote hair growth, rice protein to help encourages volume and texture so curls don’t fall flat, and panthenol which protects hair’s cuticle to adds volume, shine, and texture.

First Impression: I picked up a shampoo and conditioner by TWIST during their Black Friday/Cyber Monday via Amazon. Their products were on sale and they had some amazing deals but I promised myself I would only get what I needed and I’m running low on my current shampoo and conditioner which is why I purchased these two. The products are my latest purchases so I have yet to try them but I’m excited because the review looked decent. This product contains harsh sulfates.

TWIST Weather or not Element-defying Conditioner
Humidity is no threat to moisturized curls. This game-changing formula encourages curl definition and creates the perfect frizz-free foundation. By infusing nourishing moisture within strands and sealing the cuticle, frizz and humidity don’t stand a chance.

This product is safe for color and chemically treated hair, and free of silicones, harsh sulfates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, and mineral oil.

The shampoo contains aloe vera that soothes the scalp keeping it hydrated and preventing irritation, coconut oil that moisturizes and protects against frizz and split ends, and argan oil which helps improve hair’s elasticity, making it less prone to breakage.

First Impression: This is supposed to be the matching conditioner to the TWIST Hit Reser Light Clarifying Shampoo. The first thing I noticed was that the conditioner bottle (16 oz) is bigger than the shampoo(13 oz), which I love! If you have curly hair then you know that we love our conditioner and our conditioner bottles always seem to run out before our shampoo bottles. haha
