Happy Lunar New Year! Last year, I made a cow garland for the Year of the Ox, and in the year 2019, I made a Year of the Pig. This year, I’m continuing the zodiac animal lineup by sharing this tiger garland crochet pattern. The Lunar Animal of 2022 is the tiger which is the third animal in the Chinese zodiac wheel. Those born under the year of the tiger are said to be brave, confident, and competitive.
This crochet pattern is easy to make. I went with a red banner for this year because red is known as a lucky color and I think the colors match well with the orange I used with the tiger. If you end up making this garland feel free to tag me @mooeyandfriends and/or @mooeyscrochet so I can see your garland!
If you would like to support me for making this crochet pattern available for free, you can send me a Ko-fi. Check out all of my free crochet patterns here to see my original crocheted items. I’m also on Ravelry! If you want to learn how to crochet, watch my crochet how-to video here.

Assembly
Using the surface crochet technique, crochet each of the numbers in ‘2022’ onto each of the banner pieces. Weave yarn ends.
With black yarn and a slanted yarn needle, make a few lines to give the tiger stripes. I make three on the top of the head and two on the side of the tiger’s face. With black felt, cut-out black eyes, and black nostrils. Glue and leave to dry. You can always just use black yarn to create facial features instead if you don’t have black felt on hand.
To make the garland, ch 10 sts, slst to 10 st from hook to form a loop, ch 20-25 sts, and slst to one of the pieces. Connect each crocheted piece by ch 10 sts and slst to the corner. Continue and finish off the garland by ch 30-35 sts and slst to the 10 st to form a loop. Weave yarn ends.
