Welcome back to another deck review. In the post, I’ll be reviewing The Pastel Journey Tarot. Check out my last deck review here. I recently published a post about my kawaii tarot and oracle decks and one of the decks I featured in that post was The Pastel Journey Tarot.
Keep reading to find out what I think about this deck.
The Pastel Journey Tarot was created by Vanessa Somuayina. Vanessa Somuayina is the face and voice behind the popular tarot YouTube channel and the CEO & founder of Beaulife. The Pastel Journey Tarot was created by Vanessa Somuayina, illustrated by Erika Lopez, and designed by Ana Bastos. The Pastel Journey contains 78 cards and a guidebook. The box has a light blue ribbon sewn inside which makes taking out the cards and guidebook easy. The box also has some words of affirmation written on the inside of the box which is nice to see every time you use these tarot cards.
Vanessa Somuayina’s YouTube videos have been recommended to me for a long time but I didn’t start watching her videos until sometime last year. I was familiar with her card decks because a lot of tarot card readers whom I watch use her decks in their readings. The Pastel Journey tarot has been on my wishlist for years but I wasn’t aware that Vanessa Somuayina was the one who created this deck! However, I have now become a huge fan of her content and she’s a fellow Cancer so of course I have to support her! haha

PROS
– Amazing quality deck
– Rounded corners
– Comes with a guidebook
– Matte finish
– Ribbon inside box for easy access
– Kawaii illustrations
– Holographic details
– Shuffles nicely
– Cute backings
– The attention to detail!
– Diverse charaters
– Feminine and masculine cards
I’ll start by saying that this is a QUALITY tarot deck! The tarot cards are printed on a matte cardstock that is neither too thick nor too thin, they shuffle really well! The corners are rounded and have sliver-sprayed edges with holographic iridescent details on the cards and box which is stunning! The box is also good quality, there is a light blue ribbon sewn inside the deck which makes taking out the tarot deck and guidebook easier.
What drew me to this tarot deck was the pastel colors and kawaii illustrations. You can tell that the images on these cards are inspired by Japanese kawaii anime-style art which is adorable! I love the pastel color palette they used and the bright pops of color throughout the deck. The artwork on the back of the tarot cards is also beautiful! I love the attention to detail on these cards! I can spend hours just looking at the cards and all the details on the cards like the background, clothes, hairstyle, etc.
In terms of diversity, the deck features a lot of characters with colored skin and different types of hairstyles which is nice to see. Despite this deck being super kawaii cute, they still managed to include some masculine cards. Yes, this deck is very feminine as a lot of the characters featured in this deck are dressed super girly but some cards feature more masculine and maybe even nonbinary charaters, the King cards specifically. This is nice to see as they could’ve easily just made this deck a girly feminine tarot deck but they chose to be more inclusive.
The minor arcana cards are super cute but also cleverly chosen with this tarot deck! They chose diamonds to represent pentacles/coins which I think is genius as rocks come from the earth and require a lot of hard work which is what the pentacles/coins symbolize! With the swords suit, they chose to make the sword kawaii by adding a ribbon which reminds me of many superhero cartoons I watched as a kid. The rose is is used to represent the suit of wands but my favorite suit is the cups suit because they used boba cups to represent the cups which again matches perfectly as boba can be shared with loved ones and the cups often mention the relationships in your life! Amazing! Again, the attention to detail in this tarot is incredible!
CONS
– Expensive
The price of this tarot deck is a bit steep. Depending on where you purchase this deck it can cost anywhere between $40-55 but you are paying for quality and knowing that you are supporting independent creators. Do I think it’s worth that much money? YES! In terms of the quality of the cards, I have nothing negative to say about this deck. I genuinely adore this deck and have quickly connected with it in the past 3 months.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This is my new favorite deck! If your style is similar to mine and you don’t mind splurging on a tarot deck then I think this would be the perfect addition to add to your collection.
If you’re a complete newbie to tarot, I wouldn’t recommend this deck being your first because I think using a simple tarot to cover the basics of tarot, like the gummy tarot or the crystal unicorn tarot (if you can still find it) as theses two decks follow the rider-waite-smith tarot but with a cuter art style.
