If you know me, you know that I love a good card deck. Whether it’s a tarot, oracle, motivational, affirmation, etc. I love card decks (check out my latest deck review)! If you saw my last vlog then you may be aware that I made a few cards for a Ferris wheel photo display holder. That project inspired me to make a full 28-card motivational affirmation deck! I just published a YouTube video on the process of this deck but I wanted to share some more information on the deck in case you were wondering what motivated me to create this handmade card deck.
Watch how I made this deck in my latest YouTube video! In the video, I share how I made the motivational card deck. Hopefully, by sharing this video I’ve inspired some of you to create your own card deck out of what you have around your home. There is also a flip-through featuring all the cards in the deck at the end of the video!
For the cards, I used some old business cards that I had leftover from back when I ran my crochet shop. I used an Altoids tin to use as the case to store the cards because I had one and was waiting to use it for a special project and what’s more special than a personalized motivational deck? Plus, the Altoids tin just happened to be the perfect size for my business cards so it was as if it were meant to be! haha
Because I didn’t want the Altoids logo to show on the tin, I painted it over several times with paint and added one of my handmade ‘moogick’ stickers I made a while back. I decorated the outside of the tin with a bunch of puffy stickers and 3D nail stickers for a textured look. For the inside of the tin, I Mod Podged some wrapping paper that I got back when I was living in South Korea, again I wanted to use this paper for a special project, and this was the perfect project. I used more fun stickers inside the top inner lid such as a full moon sticker, a puffy puppy pack, and mermaid stickers (I’m currently in my mermaid era). I find it funny that the puppies and mermaid look like they’re worshiping the moon! haha
As I mentioned, I used my old business cards as the cards for this deck. I glued rainbow and black paper to the back of the cards where all the contact information was. I stuck handmade stickers with artwork that I drew by hand and worked on via Procreate and printed on matte sticker paper. Because I will be shuffling these cards I didn’t want to add a lot of stickers to the cards because it could cause messy edges so I limited the stickers to two per card. I keep a list of motivational/affirmation quotes and phrases in the notes app on my phone (I have like over 50) so choosing the sayings for the cards was a bit difficult because I had so many that I wanted to include in this deck. I handwrote the phrases on the cards and finished off by decorating the cards using whatever markers and brush pens that I had. I LOVED how they came out!
This was so fun to make! It’s very ME! I used handmade stickers that I drew and designed and used a lot of things that resonate with who I am. I have thought about creating an actual card deck but after looking into it it seems like a lot of work and money to get it manufactured, plus I still think my art style needs to improve as I’m not confident in my illustrations yet. But I’m not ruling this out! One day, I might make a full deck for you all to purchase but for now, this little deck is enough to keep me happy and motivated!
What do you think? Would you make your a card deck?

This is so pretty and creative! I’m definitely considering creating a deck of my own, perhaps with the aid of Canva though!
