A New Chapter ♥ Life Update

November 7, 2019

Life Update

If you follow me on Twitter then you may have noticed that I’ve been posting some pretty mysterious tweets for the past few months, hinting at something bug. That’s because I’m about to make a huge change in my life! I’ve been keeping a huge secret from you all for months and today I am finally announcing this news with you all because everything is finally set in stone.

With 2020 just around the corner, now is the perfect time for a fresh new start which is why… I’m going to South Korea!!! What?!?! I know! I can’t even believe that I’m typing this out! If you’ve followed in for a while you may know that I’m very interested in South Korean culture and have been trying to teach myself Korean for years using online resources and books because I’m fascinated by the culture and want to understand Korean without looking at subtitles all the time. So, I will be attending a university in Seoul to take Korean language classes. Even though I’ve been trying to learn Korean on my own for years I would often lose motivation because I wouldn’t have anywhere to test out what I’ve learned besides watching Korean dramas, variety shows or listening to music. I still felt like I wasn’t improving and would doubt myself and give up. So, what better way to learn Korean then going to school in South Korea!

Why now?
Why not, right? No, but really. The timing is a little strange. I choose Winter/Spring semesters which means I will be missing Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the birth of my first nephew (he is due in January!). However, I don’t believe there will ever be a “perfect time” so I listened to my intuition and jumped on this opportunity. My family 100% supports my decision because they know how long I’ve wanted to visit South Korean and I will be studying so it’s not like I’m just going for no reason.

How long am I staying?
The university that I’m attending has a language program that offers levels 1-7 of Korean and I signed up for two semesters, winter 2019 and spring 2020. Each semester is 10 weeks so 20 weeks total and including all the extra days that’s about 7 months!

What school am I going to?
I won’t say what school I’m going to be attending (for safety reasons) but I am going to take Korean language classes at a university, Monday-Friday.

When am I leaving?
In less than 3 weeks! OMG! So soon I know and I still need to find a place to live!
Why so sudden?
It’s not really that sudden. I told my family I was interested in doing this a couple months ago but then I had to wait for the university to open their applications online. Then, I had to send in lots of documents, wait for the university to reply, send some more documents, etc. All of this sounds like it would take a few weeks but it took way longer than expected because I had some problems with my documents and then I went to France for a week so everything got pushed back by a week. When I returned I still had to wait for the university to send me paperwork to get a student visa, I just received it yesterday! It may sound like a sudden decision but I’ve been planning this for like 3-4 months.

Aren’t you scared?
TERRIFIED! However, I’m more scared of regret. I have tons of regrets in my life and I no longer want to live like that. Yes, I’m scared of traveling by myself, that I won’t understand anything, fail all my tests, get lost, miss my family too much, miss Lucy too much, get homesick, run out of money, not make any friends, not like the food, that Korea may not be everything I thought it would be, etc, I could list hundreds of other things that I’m afraid of. I know I will have to step out of my comfort zone and that’s really scary but I know that I can do!

What will happen to the blog?
As soon as I start school my main focus will be to study because that’s the main reason why I am in Korea. However, I will have the weekends and school breaks in between so I will have free time to explore. Obviously, I will be taking my laptop and camera, I will try to blog as many of my adventures as I can whilst I’m there. Vlogging is also something I want to experiment with. Subscribe to my Youtube channel to be notified of new videos.

Lastly, I just want to leave you with some final words of encouragement. About a year ago, I was in a really dark place, I never thought would never get out of this funk but I kept pushing through because I didn’t know what else to do. Now I’m preparing to semi-move to a country that I have always dreamed of but never thought I would visit! If you’re reading this and in a similar dark place then I hope you do yourself a favor and keep going. You never know where this crazy universe will lead you. Do what makes you happy, chase your dreams as cliche as that sounds. Your future self will thank you.

That’s about it! I am so glad to be able to share this news. If any of you currently live or have ever visited South Korea let me know, I have so many questions about what to bring,

Have any of you ever been to South Korea?

Oh my gosh I'm so excited for you and please, please pack warm because Korean winters are soooo cold like -14 degrees the last time I was there!!! You know Korea is like my second home so feel free to DM me if there's anything you need and I'll try to help you out… also I *might* be going for GOT7's fanmeet in January so maybe we'll be able to meet up … hopefully I can save enough up to go even if it's just for a few days xoxo

If you didn’t read my last post, I decided to take a mental health week off or social media because I wasn’t in the best mind space. I made time for hobbies, exercised, baked, and slept better. I hope you all make time for your health and focus on yourself rather than social media. 💖 Anyways there is a new weekly post up on the blog. Link in bio. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! 🫖🍰✨
