On the eighth day of Christmas, my sister made this for you, candy cane syrup! Michelle’s big sister Stephanie reporting in with my contribution to 12 DAYS OF DIY!!!
This recipe is super easy-peasy! It’s basically a simple syrup with candy canes thrown in. I adapted this from Storybook Woods (I just fiddle with the candy cane count, tbh.) I like this stuff in my coffee and all over pancakes when there’s no Canadian gold (aka maple syrup) around the house. Hope you like it too!
You will need
– 2 to 5 Candy canes, to taste
– 1 cup of water
– 1 cup of sugar
– Somewhere to store the syrup (a jar or container)
Put all of the ingredients above into a medium saucepan, breaking the candy canes into large pieces. Cook on low heat until sugar and candies are dissolved and becomes a clear liquid. (DO NOT boil or it will harden and get crusty!)
The syrup has a natural pink tint to it, but feel free to add a few drops of red food coloring like I did for a more bright, “cherry” red. Store in a glass container for best taste.
Do you like candy canes?
