Even though we only have about a week left in Taurus season, I thought it would be fun to start another astrology series this time involving books! Books that remind me of a certain astrology sign, an astrology TBR (to be read) series, if you will. I’ll judge the books based on the cover and synopsis to determine what zodiac sign vibes the said book reminds me of, and recommend a few reading selections that I haven’t read before.
The point of this series is not only to recommend some books to you all but also for me to read one (if not all) of the books on this TBR. I’m kicking off the series with the sign that rules my moon sign, Taurus! I probably should’ve started this series back during Aries season to kick off the zodiac wheel but time is a funny thing, isn’t it? Let me know if you would like to see more astrology TBRs and I’ll try to post one every month!
About Taurus
Taurus signs love to indulge in the finer things in life because they’re hardworking and know that they deserve to relax when they’re not working. They’re determined, patient, and dependable, making them an excellent worker. Instead of relieving stress by partying, they would much rather do something that relaxes them and brings them comfort by practicing self-care. Taurus is also ruled by Venus, the planet associated with romance so they’re big romantics and sensual beings. They like anything that stimulates all five senses, like gardening or cooking!
Go read my Taurus astrology spotlight for more information on the zodiac sign Taurus. There is also an astrology spotlight for each of the 12 zodiac signs.

My Life in France by Julia Child
Although she would later singlehandedly create a new approach to American cuisine with her cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking and her television show The French Chef, Julia Child was not always a master chef. Indeed, when she first arrived in France in 1948 with her husband, Paul, who was to work for the USIS, she spoke no French and knew nothing about the country itself.
But as she dove into French culture, buying food at local markets and taking classes at the Cordon Bleu, her life changed forever with her newfound passion for cooking and teaching. Julia’s unforgettable story—struggles with the head of the Cordon Bleu, rejections from publishers to whom she sent her now-famous cookbook, a wonderful, nearly fifty-year long marriage that took the Childs across the globe—unfolds with the spirit so key to Julia’s success as a chef and a writer, brilliantly capturing one of America’s most endearing personalities.
Although Julia Child is a Leo. I chose her book My Life In France to be a part of my Taurus book selection because she’s a chef. When I think of Taurus professions, I always think of chefs! A good chef not only wants to prepare an incredible meal but also wants to create a memorable experience for the guests.
There may be some romance because she’s in France with her husband. Books about long-term partnership, or marriage also remind me of the zodiac sign, Taurus because they’re known to be committed and loyal individuals. Also, France (although technically a Cancer sign) just seems like the perfect place for a Taurus to roam free due to it’s luxurious lifestyle, decadent foods, and stunning scenic views!
From the little I know about Julia Child, I know that she didn’t become more well-known in her career field until much later in life. She seems very hardworking, patient, dedicated, and diligent, all strong Taurus traits. My Life In France also gives me strong Sagittarius vibes due to the travel, language, and learning aspects so this could also be a good read for Sagittarius season.

Julie & Julia by Julie Powell
Nearing 30 and trapped in a dead-end secretarial job, Julie Powell reclaims her life by cooking every single recipe in Julia Child’s legendary Mastering the Art of French Cooking in the span of one year. It’s a hysterical, inconceivable redemptive journey — life rediscovered through aspics, calves’ brains and cré me brûlée
This was the book that inspired this series! I watched the movie, Julie & Julia starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep, a few years ago which inspired me to pick up a copy of the book. When I read the back of the book, I thought I love this idea! Of course, me with my moon in Taurus was like this is such a Taurus thing to do! haha
Cooking and blogging just scream Taurus going-to-Gemini (communication and anything related to social media reminds me of Gemini but more on that next month! haha) vibes! Julie Powell was also born on April 20, the start of Taurus season. The whole I’m going to be diligent by cooking every single recipe in a cookbook is so Taurean.

Butter by Asako Yuzuki
Gourmet cook Manako Kajii sits in Tokyo Detention Center convicted of the serial murders of lonely businessmen, who she is said to have seduced with her delicious home cooking. The case has captured the nation’s imagination but Kajii refuses to speak with the press, entertaining no visitors. That is, until journalist Rika Machida writes a letter asking for her recipe for beef stew and Kajii can’t resist writing back.
Rika, the only woman in her news office, works late each night, rarely cooking more than ramen. As the visits unfold between her and the steely Kajii, they are closer to a masterclass in food than journalistic research. Rika hopes this gastronomic exchange will help her soften Kajii but it seems that she might be the one changing. With each meal she eats, something is awakening in her body, might she and Kaji have more in common than she once thought?
Inspired by the real case of the convicted con woman and serial killer, “The Konkatsu Killer,” Asako Yuzuki’s Butter is a vivid, unsettling exploration of misogyny, obsession, romance and the transgressive pleasures of food in Japan.
So, I mainly chose this as a Taurus book because of the cover (cows and bulls are associated with Taurus because it’s their symbol) and the title. Butter? The main character is said to be a gourmet cook so I’m hoping for some mouthwatering descriptions of food in this book which would make it a very Taurus book.
Reading more into the plot of Butter, it gives me more Scorpio vibes. Scorpio is the opposite/sister-sign of Taurus so I think this is a nice blend of Taurus and Scorpio. Again, I haven’t read this book so I could be completely off! haha

Have you read any of these books?

Absolutely LOVE this series idea, Michelle! It’s so you, and I can’t wait to read more of it. Going to patiently await the Pisces instalment 😉 I read Butter a while ago, and am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
Awww thank you, Michelle! I’m glad you like it! I’m going to have so much fun selecting books for each sign! Pisces won’t be until next year, but ngl I already have like two books that I think would suit that sign perfectly! ♥
