SPRING back to Life! Collage Mood Board

It’s been a hot minute since the last time I created a new mood board. In fact, I haven’t changed my bulletin board since Autumn of 2025! But with the arrival of Spring and a new astrological season I thought this would be the perfect time to give my board a fresh makeover!
This time, I decided to do something different with my bulletin board because I was looking back at my past mood boards, and most of them looked similar because I tend to use the same things over and over again. To prevent that from occurring this time, I made a giant collage! I used a lot of my old ephemera that I’ve been saving for a journal or zine. One can only have so much journal space, so I wanted to incorporate some old cutouts and tags, receipts, and other “junk” that I’ve been hoarding for the “perfect time” for this collage board. This was such a fun and creative project! I also think it’s very different from my previous boards.
I know not everyone enjoys the cluttered look of a collage, but I love that handcrafted look. To me, collages have this charming, whimsical, magical feeling. Everything looks so out of place when you first start, but with some time, everything starts to weave itself together to create something beautiful. You can look at a collage, and see all the hidden details and wonder why someone chose to place that specific piece there. It’s so dreamy!
My bulletin board has gotten to the point where parts of the cork have fallen off, so I used a sheet of newspaper as the backdrop of this mood board and used tape and thumbtacks to attach the newspaper to the board. This time, I didn’t use any art prints and instead leaned into my crafty side to curate a spring-themed collage using some art that I painted, handmade paper, old wrappers, and miscellaneous junk. The loose theme of this mood board was Spring. I wanted to emphasize personal growth with flowers and floral imagery. I also included words and phrases that I cut out from old magazines and catalogs. Some stuff was intentional, some wasn’t, but later fit the theme that I was aiming for. Isn’t that just the way?
I’m a very nostalgic and sentimental person, so going through certain mementos brought up memories that I wasn’t expecting. The dates and names of certain receipts, the messages on old gift cards, childhood photos, drawings, travel magazines, holiday catalogs, etc. It was a bittersweet feeling. But it also felt uplifting to find homes for all these keepsakes.

To finish off my mood board, I hung a bunch of my chachkies, like keychains, trinkets, stickers, cards, patches, and some of my past crochet projects. I use the thumbtacks to hang certain objects and use tape for the rest.
I normally attach a garland or banner to the bottom of my bulletin board. I wanted to string up my flower garland, which I used in this mood board. However, I couldn’t find the container where I store my crochet garlands, which is why I didn’t include one with this board. This could be a sign to make something new, which would be the perfect opportunity because of the theme.
When was the last time you created a collage?
