Pokémon Popplio Plush ♥ Crochet Pattern

Hi, it’s Michelle from 2025! I’ve been going back to my past crochet patterns and reformatting my old patterns so that they’re easier to understand. I first posted this pattern back in 2016! It was part of my ’12 Days of DIY’ Blogmas series, where I would post 12 DIY projects leading up to Christmas in December. Baby Michelle was sure ambitious! lol

Pokémon: Sun and Moon were recently released, so I decided to make a project based on the game. In this post, I will be sharing my crochet pattern on how to make my favorite starter from Pokémon: Sun and Moon, Popplio! Popplio is a water Pokémon who instantly won my heart! I knew I wanted a Popplio of my own so I created my own, and now you can too!

Supplies
– H/5.oo mm crochet hook (my favorite hook)
– G/4.25 mm crochet hook
– Blue worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart’s Super Saver yarn in Delft Blue)
– Light blue worsted weight yarn
– Pink worsted weight yarn
– White worsted weight yarn
– Black felt
– White felt
– Polyfill stuffing
– Sewing pins
– Slanted tapestry needle (I use these)
– No-sew glue (this is my favorite)
– Scissors

Aberrations
ch(s) – chains
st(s) – stitch(es)
slst – slip stitch (same as join)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
flo – front loop only
blo – back loop only
cc – color change
dec – decrease (same as sc2tog) (single two st together)
inc – increase (make 2sc in a single st)
RS – right side/front side
WS – wrong side/back side
(x_) – repeat (_) amount of times
[x_] – repeat everything inside the [_] times amount of times

POPPLIO’S HEAD
With H hook and blue yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Round 2: 2sc in each st (x6). Total = 12 sts
Round 3: sc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Round 4: 2sc in each st (x12). Total = 24 sts
Round 5: sc 24 sts. Total = 24 sts
Round 6: [2sc in next st, sc 2 sts](x8). Total = 32 sts
Round 7: sc 32 sts. Total = 32 sts
start stuffing
Round 8: [dec, sc 1 st](x10), dec. Total = 21 sts
Round 9: [dec, sc 2 sts](x5), sc 1 st. Total = 16 sts
Round 10: [dec, sc 1 st](x5), sc 1 st. Total = 11 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S BODY
With H hook and blue yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Round 2: 2sc in each st (x6). Total = 12 sts
Round 3: sc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Round 4: [2sc in next st, sc 1 st](x6). Total = 18 sts
Rounds 5-10: sc 18 sts. Total = 18 sts
start stuffing
Round 11: dec 4 sts, sc 10 sts. Total = 14 sts
Round 12: sc 14 sts. Total = 14 sts
Round 13: dec 4 sts, sc 6 sts. Total = 10 sts
Round 14: sc 10 sts. Total = 10 sts
Round 15: [dec, sc 1 st](x3), sc 2 sts. Total = 7 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S ARMS (MAKE 2)
With H hook and blue yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Round 2: 2sc in each st (x6). Total = 12 sts
Rounds 3-7: sc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
*start stuffing (only stuff the bottom)
Round 8: dec 2 sts, sc 8 sts. Total = 10 sts
Round 9: sc 10 sts. Total = 10 sts
Round 10: [dec, sc 3 sts](x2). Total = 8 sts
Rounds 11-15: sc 10 sts. Total = 8 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

*Make sure that only the bottom part of Popplio’s arms are stuffed! This will make Popplio stand up by itself!

POPPLIO’S TAIL (MAKE 2)
With H hook and blue yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Round 2: 2sc in each st (x4). Total = 8 sts
Rounds 3-4: sc 8 sts. Total = 8 sts
Round 5: [dec, sc 2 st2](x2). Total = 6 sts
Round 6: sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Round 7: [dec, sc 1 st](x2). Total = 4 sts
Round 8: sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S RUFF (MAKE 2)
With G hook and light blue yarn
Round 1: ch 30, slst to 1st st to form a loop.. Total = 30 sts
Round 2: sc 30 sts. Total = 30 sts
don’t cut off yarn, move onto the scallop part
SCALLOPS (MAKE 6)
-sc 5 sts, ch 1, turn, dec, sc 1 st, dec. Total = 3 sts
-dec, sc 1 st. Total = 2 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S EARS (MAKE 2)
With H hook and blue yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Round 2: 2sc in each st (x4). Total = 8 sts
Rounds 3-5: sc 8 sts. Total = 8 sts
Round 6: [dec, sc 2 sts](x2). Total = 6 sts
Rounds 7-8: sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S SNOUT
With H hook and white yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Round 2: sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Round 3: [2sc in next st, sc 1 st](x2). Total = 6 sts
Round 4: sc 6 sts. Total = 6 sts
Round 5: [2sc in next st, sc 2 sts](x2). Total = 8 sts
Round 6: sc 8 sts. Total = 8 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

POPPLIO’S NOSE
With G hook and pink yarn
Round 1: magic circle, sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Rounds 2-4: sc 4 sts. Total = 4 sts
Round 5: dec 2 sts. Total = 2 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

ASSEMBLY
Embroider Popplio’s whiskers and smile with some black thread or yarn. With white yarn, add Popplio’s front details to the arms/flippers. Attach the two light blue ruff pieces on top of each other. Next, sew Popplio’s head onto the ruff, making sure you leave the bottom of the head open to sew later on. Pin the head onto the body and sew it together.

Attach all of Popplio’s parts by sewing them together with a yarn needle. You can use sewing pins to keep the pieces in the correct areas as you sew. Cut the eyes out of black and white felt, and use glue to adhere the eyes onto Popplio’s face. You can use thread or yarn if you prefer.
