Books I Want To Read During Pisces Season ♥ Pisces TBR

Welcome back to another Zodiac sign TBR! In this series, I’ll be recommending books that I think give off the feeling of a certain zodiac sign. I judge books based on the cover and/or synopsis to determine which zodiac sign vibes with said book. This is a TBR, so I hope to read one (if not all) of these books within the length of a certain astrological season and/or before the end of the month. If you missed the previous zodiac TBR in this series, go read that post and all my bookish blog posts here.
After posting my Aquarius TBR late last month, I said I would try to publish my Pisces TBR earlier. However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, I had to push this post back. I know we’re only a few days away from the beginning of Aries season, but I’ll be working on my Pisces TBR for the rest of March. I doubt I’ll be able to complete all four of these picks, but I’m going to try my best to at least read two of the four books.
As a fellow water sign, all water signs are my favorite. Honestly, I feel that water signs are so underappreciated! Pisces is the bright and bubbly one out of the three water signs. When I think about the zodiac sign of Pisces, mermaids are the first thing that comes to mind because the symbol of Pisces is a fish. I do have a few merpeople books featured in this TBR. However, if you want more, go check out my Mermaid Reading Challenge posts! I didn’t want to just include books about mermaids, so I also incorporated other themes associated with the Zodiac sign of Pisces.
About Pisces
Pisces is the twelfth sign of the astrology wheel. They’re a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune. Pisces are the dreamers, they are the artists, the hopeless romantics, the sensitives who feel everything intuitively and deeply. Pisces are naturally kind, friendly, and welcoming people. They’re empathic, which makes them compassionate individuals whose sixth sense never fails them. Like all water signs, Pisces tend to have an interest in the mystical, spiritual, and occult. They’re the astrology and crystal girlies!
Pisces signs are also highly imaginative and creative people who thrive in any creative endeavors. The symbol associated with the sign of Pisces is the fish, and the tarot card that represents Pisces is the Moon card.
Go read my Pisces astrology spotlight for more information on the sign of Pisces. There is also an astrology spotlight for each of the 12 zodiac signs.

The Pisces: A Novel by Melissa Broder
Lucy has been writing her dissertation on Sappho for nine years when she and her boyfriend break up in a dramatic flameout. After she bottoms out in Phoenix, her sister in Los Angeles insists Lucy dog-sit for the summer. Annika’s home is a gorgeous glass cube on Venice Beach, but Lucy can find little relief from her anxiety — not in the Greek chorus of women in her love addiction therapy group, not in her frequent Tinder excursions, not even in Dominic the foxhound’s easy affection.
Everything changes when Lucy becomes entranced by an eerily attractive swimmer while sitting alone on the beach rocks one night. But when Lucy learns the truth about his identity, their relationship, and Lucy’s understanding of what love should look like, take a very unexpected turn.
Obviously, a novel titled The Pisces has to make it into my Pisces TBR. This novel has been on my radar because, for the past few years, I’ve been participating in a summer reading challenge called the Mermaid Readathon, where for 2 weeks I read books themed around mermaids, islands, and sea creatures. While researching books, I discovered The Pisces, which contains mermaids. Not only that, but Lucy, my trusty pomerian who recently passed away, shares the name with the main character of this novel, and Lucy was a Pisces. Another sign from her!

The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami
Sara has just landed at LAX, returning home from a conference abroad, when agents from the Risk Assessment Administration pull her aside and inform her that she will soon commit a crime. Using data from her dreams, the RAA’s algorithm has determined that she is at imminent risk of harming the person she loves most: her husband. For his safety, she must be kept under observation for twenty-one days.
The agents transfer Sara to a retention center, where she is held with other dreamers, all of them women trying to prove their innocence from different crimes. With every deviation from the strict and ever-shifting rules of the facility, their stay is extended. Months pass and Sara seems no closer to release. Then one day, a new resident arrives, disrupting the order of the facility and leading Sara on a collision course with the very companies that have deprived her of her freedom.
Because those born under the sign of Pisces are dreamy people, I wanted to choose a book about dreams. The Dream Hotel is a dystopian fiction about in a world that monitors everybody’s dreams. It seems very eerie and fascinating. After reading The Compound, I’m in the mood for another dystopian read, and this seems like an interesting one!

Of Seafoam & Saltwater by Kay Leyda
The sea has always called to Cari. Like a lullaby that only she can hear, she has been drawn to the water’s edge for as long as she can remember. Yet fear holds her back from stepping into the sea, until she decides she needs answers only the sea can provide.
When her memories return, Cari finds herself in the midst of a far more complicated world than she ever imagined. Her family, the royalty of the kingdom of Piscea, are being held prisoner by the Mad King Varan – a power-hungry merman bent on conquering the five merfolk kingdoms.
Upon her return to the sea, Cari experiences dreams of the Sea Witch, a terrifying creature who decrees that she cannot prevent King Varan from usurping the kingdoms. Can she and her new allies pull off their daring rescue mission? And if they do, what consequences will the Mad King rain down upon them?
This novel sounds like Moana meets The Little Mermaid, which I’m all for. This is also the first book of a series called The Piscea Chronicles, love the play on words!

The Dallergut Dream-Making District by Miye Lee
It’s been a year since Penny first walked through the doors of the Dallergut Dream Department Store, and surviving a year at the store means one thing… She is now an official employee of the dream industry! She can finally take the express commuter train to the Company District, where all the dream-production companies are located, and discover how all raw dream materials and testing equipment are produced.
But the Company District is not quite what she expected. Instead it hides a secret underbelly of the magical industry that Penny thought she was a part of. Penny discovers the Civil Complaint Center, full of people filing complaints about their dreams. She also learns about the regular customers who have stopped coming to the store. As she gets to the bottom of each complaint, she begins to expand her horizons, moving beyond the role of dreamseller to understanding what lies in the hearts of their lost regulars.
This is the follow-up to The Dallergut Dream Department Store, which I didn’t love. I’m still debating whether I want to read this or not. I have a love and hate relationship with cozy Asian literature. With that said, cozy lit seems like a very Piscian genre. Depending on how I’m feeling, a cozy novel may hit the spot. But the thing is, not much happens in these books, and they can be predictable and underwhelming.
