Gingerbread House Cozy ♥ Crochet Pattern

Hi, it’s Michelle from 2025! I’ve been going back to my past crochet patterns and reformatting my old patterns so that they’re easier to understand. I first posted this pattern back in 2016! It was part of my ’12 Days of DIY’ Blogmas series, where I would post 12 DIY projects leading up to Christmas in December. Baby Michelle was sure ambitious! lol

Today, I’m sharing this gingerbread house cozy that you can use to store your favorite teas! I created this cozy to fit the Harvey and Sons Tea tins. However, you can attach this cozy to any box by gluing the crochet pieces to the box, or you can just stuff this cozy and make it into a plush instead! The options are endless! Get creative!

Supplies
– H/5.oo mm crochet hook (my favorite hook)
– Brown worsted weight yarn
– White worsted weight yarn
– White thread
– White felt
– Polyfill stuffing
– Sewing needle
– Mini pom poms (optional)
– Colorful buttons (Optional)
– Slanted tapestry needle (I use these)
– No-sew glue (this is my favorite)
– Scissors

Aberrations
ch(s) – chains
st(s) – stitch(es)
slst – slip stitch (same as join)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
flo – front loop only
blo – back loop only
cc – color change
dec – decrease (same as sc2tog) (single two st together)
inc – increase (make 2sc in a single st)
RS – right side/front side
WS – wrong side/back side
(x_) – repeat (_) amount of times
[x_] – repeat everything inside the [_] times amount of times

GINGERBREAD HOUSE SIDES (MAKE 4)
With H hook and white yarn
Row 1: ch 13 sts, dc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Rows 2-9: ch 1, dc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Row 10: ch 1, sc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Cut off and leave a long tail for sewing

With H hook and white yarn
Row 1: ch 13 sts, sc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts

FRONT OF ROOF (MAKE 2)
With H hook and white yarn
Row 1: ch 13 sts, dc 12 sts. Total = 12 sts
Row 2: ch 1, dec 2 sts, sc 4 sts, dec 2 sts. Total = 8 sts
Row 3: ch 1, dec, sc 4 sts, dec. Total = 6 sts

ASSEMBLY
I surface crocheted the “icing” by using white yarn. I did this before I attached all the parts of the house together. Another option, if you don’t want to surface crochet, you can use thick white yarn to sew the gingerbread house together so it appears like the icing.

Sew the sides of the gingerbread house together. I started by sewing all the house sides to the bottom piece first, then I sewed the house sides to each other. Next, sew the roof pieces together and lightly stuff the roof with a bit of polyfill stuffing.

Time to decorate! Which was my favorite part because it felt like I was decorating a real gingerbread house! Use what you have available, like I did. I decorated my house with buttons, mini pom poms, and felt. I also added more “icing” details to create the house and windows on my gingerbread house

Once you’re done decorating, you can choose to either sew the roof to the house all around, or you can do what I did and make an opening for easy access to tea. To create the loops, which I used to close the cozy. I created a loop stitch. I made seven loops.
