Books I Want To Read During Capricorn Season โฅ Capricorn TBR

Welcome back to another Zodiac sign TBR! In this series, I’ll be recommending books that I think give off the feeling of a certain zodiac sign. I judge books based on the cover and/or synopsis to determine which zodiac sign vibes with said book. This is a TBR, so I hope to read one (if not all) of these books within the length of a certain astrological season and/or before the end of the month. If you missed the previous zodiac TBR in this series, go check read that post and all my bookish blog posts here.
Say what you want about the New Year’s Resolutions, but Capricorn season is the ideal time to welcome in newness, as this earth sign is all about commitment! So, if you’re looking for a sign to start something new or a time to reorganize your life for the year ahead, Capricorn season is the perfect time! With that said, this Capricorn TBR only contains 2 books because I’ll be focusing on beginning new adventures that may require more time, and reading might not be a major priority for me, at least not in January.
About Capricorn
Capricorn is the tenth sign in the astrology wheel. They’re a cardinal earth sign that is ruled by Saturn. Capricorn is a ambitious, hardworking, determined, and disciplined sign. Capricorn is the CEO who exudes major boss energy. Capricorn is the zodiac sign that turns a hobby into a successful business! They achieve their goals by being strategic, diligent, and having a strong work ethic. But a Capricorn knows they won’t achieve their desires overnight. They’re also realistic and remain patient as they focus on their long-term goals.
In terms of personality, Capricorns can come off as serious and pessimistic due to their cold demeanor and tend to have a dry sense of humor. However, once you crack their rock-hard exterior, you will come to find they’re loyal and reliable. If Cancer (their opposite/sister sign) is the mother. Then Capricorn is the father of the zodiac. Cancer will be there for you when you need emotional comfort. On the other hand, Capricorn will be there to ask you if you learned your lesson by using the tough love approach. They are also associated with the symbol of the goat and the Devil card in tarot.

The Mountain is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage into Self-Mastery by Brianna Wiest
This is a book about self-sabotage. Why we do it, when we do it, and how to stop doing itโfor good. Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential. For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we actually have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb. In the end, it is not the mountain we master, but ourselves.
While personal transformation tends to be more of a Virgo thing, I believe a strong trait in every earth sign is their ability to be responsible and take accountability for their actions. When disaligned, that’s when a Capricorn’s more devilish side might come out. As I mentioned earlier, the Devil in tarot is associated with the sign of Capricorn. The Devil is our addiction to unhealthy habits and the limitations we put on ourselves. Due to Capricorns being status-driven and the type to climb the corporate ladder, they can be the type to self-sabotage, which is why I chose The Mountain is You for this TBR. Another reason is that Capricorn’s symbol is the goat. Goats climb mountains, don’t they?

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
Keiko has never fit in, neither in her family, nor in school, but when at the age of eighteen she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of โSmile Mart,โ she finds peace and purpose in her life. In the store, unlike anywhere else, she understands the rules of social interactionโmany are laid out line by line in the storeโs manualโand she does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a โnormalโ person excellently, more or less. Keiko is very happy, but the people close to her, from her family to her coworkers, increasingly pressure her to find a husband, and to start a proper career, prompting her to take desperate actionโฆ
A brilliant depiction of a world hidden from view, Convenience Store Woman is an ironic and sharp-eyed look at contemporary work culture and the pressures we all feel to conform, as well as a charming and completely fresh portrait of an unforgettable heroine.
I first read Convenience Store Woman back in 2019! However, last year I heard a lot about this novel from book creators whom I follow, which inspired me to give this a reread. The reason why I added this to my Capricorn TBR is mainly because of the title, but I can also link it to Saturn. Saturn is the ruling planet of Capricorn. Saturn is known for causing limitations and restrictions on oneself. This planet asks us to set boundaries and bring forth a structure. I have a vague recollection of Convenience Store Woman, but I do remember the main character has been working at the convenience store for a long time. She isn’t driven or ambitious like a stereotypical Capricorn. Honestly, it could be fun to re-examine this character as I remember her being quite frustrated with her choices.
