Capricorn New Moon Journal Prompts

On Sunday, January 18th, there was a New Moon happening in the sign of Capricorn. New Moons are a potent time and moon cycle to set new intentions, as the moon is in it’s beginning state, it’s time to manifest your dreams! Not only is this New Moon the first of 2026, but it’s also in the sign of Capricorn. The committed, ambitious, cardinal earth sign who is all about setting long-lasting goal setting. Perfect for the first month of a New Year! I know some people don’t begin anything until the Lunar New Year, Spring, or until the start of Aries season. To each their own!
Anyways, I thought it would be nice to begin the year with a few journal prompts to break open that new journal that you bought and promised you were going to use. A few years ago, I posted a New Moon in Virgo, and I thought why not try that again and possibly begin a new series? Plus, I love incorporating my love for astrology into my blog posts. I won’t promise I’ll post these regularly, only when I think the energy of the Moon and astrology sign is beneficial for us.
About the New Moon in Capricorn
Capricorn is a practical and hardworking sign. They’re serious about their goals! Ruled by the planet of Saturn, they’re willing to put in the effort for their dreams. Saturn is a slow-moving planet, so Capricorn energy is slow and steady. They’re not about instant gratification. If you plan to work with this New Moon in the sign of Capricorn, you’re telling the universe that you’re ready to live a life of alignment and transform your life for the better with a practical approach.
When the New Moon is in the zodiac sign of Capricorn, this is an ideal time for planting new seeds! As a New Moon is also the best time to manifest your desires! Like a garden, you need to regularly tend to your seeds in order for them to grow to their full potential! Set intentions with your new seeds, water your seeds, pull out any weeds (self- doubts or negativity), give them sunlight (care and attention), speak to them (remind them you’re still there), and most importantly, have faith and trust that you can achieve anything you set your mind to!
If you’re not looking to start any new habits or ventures, then you can double down on what is currently working for you. Continue to nourish your garden. If your plants or flowers fail to bloom, remember you can always start over again.

Down below, I provide a few journal prompts for not only the New Year but also this Lunar cycle. Remember, the energy of any moon cycle is strong enough to last three days.
- What did you start back in 2025 that is still a big part of your life right now? How has that changed your life?
- Whatโs a long-lasting goal or habit that you would like to start this year?
- What bad habits are you willing to give up to make your manifestations come to fruition this year?
- How practical do you consider your goals?
- Do you have any work/career-focused goals this year? What are they?
- A year from now, where do you wish to be in your journey of life?
- What were you doing in 2016 that you no longer wish to carry into this New Year?
- What part of your life do you want to focus more on this year?
- What is something you desire? How are you planning on achieving this goal?
- If you made a vision board for this year, what are the first steps you would take to make one (or all) of these dreams come true?
Tip: make a vision board and write out your goals or the energy you wish to embody this year in the present form (ex: I AM LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE!). Display your board somewhere you see often,
