Books I Want To Read During Aquarius Season โ™ฅ Aquarius TBR

Welcome back to another Zodiac sign TBR! In this series, I’ll be recommending books that I think give off the feeling of a certain zodiac sign. I judge books based on the cover and/or synopsis to determine which zodiac sign vibes with said book. This is a TBR, so I hope to read one (if not all) of these books within the length of a certain astrological season and/or before the end of the month. If you missed the previous zodiac TBR in this series, go read that post and all my bookish blog posts here.

Sorry for the late Zodiac TBR! I know we only have a few days left of Aquarius season, so I apologize for the delayed post. However, I always view these astrology TBRs as a monthly list of books I want to read, so I’ll be focusing on starting and completing the books I chose for this zodiac sign until the end of February. I promise to post my next astrology sign TBR closer to the beginning of the astrological season.

To be honest,ย Aquarius was a bit difficult to choose books for because itโ€™s not an astrology sign that Iโ€™m too familiar with. The general vibe of Aquarius is that they’re a weird sign. I often see memes that describe the sign of Aquarius as an alien, so when selecting books for this sign, I was looking for strange books that consisted of extraterrestrials. In the end, I did manage to find two books that I thought matched the energy of Aquarius pretty well.

About Aquarius
Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the astrology wheel. Theyโ€™re a fixed air sign ruled byย Uranus.ย Aquarius is a social sign that is often confused for a water sign because of their name and because of its symbol of the water bearer. Another reason why Aquarius is mistaken for a water sign is that they’re all about friendship and community. Aquarians are curious by nature, plus a sociable sign, so they make friends easily as they have an outgoing personality that makes others gravitate towards them. However, this zodiac sign can also be fiercely independent and emotionally detached from others if they feel like they’re not being seen enough. Similar to their sister sign Leo, Aquarius loves being the center, though they may pretend like they don’t. As a result, they might come off as overly eccentric just for the shock of it.

The tarot card associated with Aquarius is The Star card, which is all about hoping for your dreams and having faith in the universe that things will come into fruition, a very Aquarian mindset.

Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino
At the moment when Voyager 1 is launched into space carrying its famous golden record, a baby of unusual perception is born to a single mother in Philadelphia. Adina Giorno is tiny and jaundiced, but she reaches for warmth and light. As a child, she recognizes that she is different: She possesses knowledge of a faraway planet. The arrival of a fax machine enables her to contact her extraterrestrial relatives, beings who have sent her to report on the oddities of Earthlings.

For years, as she moves through the world and makes a life for herself among humans, she dispatches transmissions on the terrors and surprising joys of their existence. Then, at a precarious moment, a beloved friend urges Adina to share her messages with the world. Is there a chance she is not alone?

If Aquarius were a genre, I believe it would be science fiction. Though Iโ€™m not normally into the sci-fi genre, I also donโ€™t discriminate against a book based on its genre. When I first heard the description of Beautyland, I thought it sounded weird, but I was intrigued, much like an Aquarius. As I mentioned, aliens are very Aquarian. lol

Earthlings by Sayaka Murata
Natsuki isn’t like the other girls. She has a wand and a transformation mirror. She might be a witch, or an alien from another planet. Together with her cousin Yuu, Natsuki spends her summers in the wild mountains of Nagano, dreaming of other worlds. When a terrible sequence of events threatens to part the two children forever, they make a promise: survive, no matter what.

Now Natsuki is grown. She lives a quiet life with her asexual husband, surviving as best she can by pretending to be normal. But the demands of Natsuki’s family are increasing, her friends wonder why she’s still not pregnant, and dark shadows from Natsuki’s childhood are pursuing her. Fleeing the suburbs for the mountains of her childhood, Natsuki prepares herself with a reunion with Yuu. Will he still remember their promise? And will he help her keep it?

Another reread? Yup! After reading Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata last month, I felt like following up with another one of her novels. I first read Earthlings at the end of 2023, and I remember Earthlings being a strange shocking book that I enjoyed! I’ve found that I love it when something unexpected happens in a book, and there were multiple moments like that in Earthlings, so I thought it would be perfect to read during Aquarius season!
